A survey conducted by the SANS Institute found that 82% of companies had at least 80% of their employees working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, compared with just 6% of companies before the pandemic.

The onset of COVID-19 required a sudden change in how enterprises organized their network resources.

IT teams in companies everywhere were now responsible for maintaining business continuity to adapt to the new reality. Making sure that workers are equipped, communicating, and safe at home is essential during this time.

Ensuring safe access to company resources is a mission-critical requirement when workers might no longer be protected by the corporate security architecture behind firewalls.

The SANS Remote Workers Poll captured the thoughts and opinions of network and security professionals to create a framework to understand the business impacts of this sudden shift to a near-100% remote workforce.

The survey sampled 345 security professionals across various roles between April 6 and May 11, 2020.

What you’ll learn from the SANS Remote Workers Poll:

  • How well were companies prepared to provide resources to their workers for remote access?
  • How have technological needs changed with this shift to maintain business continuity?
  • How are devices and communications being secured?
